Iga Świątek named WTA’s Player of the Year

Women’s Tennis Association announced on Monday that ranking leader Iga Świątek has been named WTA player of the year for the second consecutive year. Tomasz Wiktorowski the coach of the Polish super-athlete was named trainer of the year.

The results of the WTA poll do not come as a surprise, just a confirmation of the excellent form of the 22-year-old tennis player from Raszyn, who gave up the WTA ranking lead for eight weeks to Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka.

On its website, the WTA organization recalls that the Pole won a total of six tournaments last season.

In addition to the Grand Slam French Open in Paris, where she triumphed for the third time, she also won in Beijing, Doha, Stuttgart, Warsaw, and the season-ending WTA Finals tournament in Cancún, Mexico. The Organizations also named Australia’s Storm Hunter and Belgium’s Elise Mertens as the best WTA doubles pair. In the “Most Improved Player of the Year” category, the winner was China's Qinwen Zheng, while Ukraine's Elina Svitolina was named “Comeback Player of the Year”.
