It will be the crowning of a great season for Marciniak who has been advancing through the levels of the professional hierarchy for years. In December he was chosen to referee the World Cup final, in which Argentina defeated France on penalties.

In 2023, an injury meant a temporary stop for Marciniak but he quickly returned to refereeing and received stellar reviews including the most recent for the Champions League semi-final between Manchester City and Real Madrid. Commentators claimed Marciniak was in shape and ready to take on an even more significant challenge.

UEFA has announced that the Polish referee and his team will officiate this year’s final of the Champions League. The major club football match of the 2022/2023 season will take place on June 10 in Istanbul.
