I’m calling on the German gov’t to supply all arms types to Ukraine: Polish PM

“I call on the German government to act decisively by supplying all kinds of armaments to Ukraine; there is no reason to block support for Kyiv,” appealed Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Berlin.

The PM was taking part in celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the political activity of Wolfgang Schaeuble, a CDU politician and former chairman of the Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament.

Mateusz Morawiecki said it is worth calling to mind the “bitter words of Jürgen Habermas,” a German social theorist, these being that solidarity and democracy have become scarce in the EU.

“In the EU we need solidarity, it is an effort to work together towards a common political perspective,” he said.

“We were vocal about the need to ship Patriot missile launchers to Ukraine and our voice has been heard, thank you for that. Ukraine's defeat may become a prelude to World War III. Therefore, today there is no reason to block support for Kyiv and delay it indefinitely”, Morawiecki said.

During a press conference before leaving for Berlin, the Prime Minister was asked about his intentions to talk with German politicians about the transfer of modern Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

“Yes, today I will talk with politicians of various options in the German political stage on the transfer of tanks to Ukraine,” Morawiecki confirmed, noting that Ukraine needs modern, western tanks.

The head of the Polish government added moreover that the war in Ukraine is “also a fight for our security”.

“For stability, for peace - that is why it is so important to stop procrastinating and focus on real support, as is done by Poland, the USA and Great Britain,” said the Prime Minister.
