While authorities are still debating the circumstances of his imminent parole, Chris Hani's murderer, Janusz Waluś, is in hospital after being stabbed by another inmate at Kgosi Mampuru Prison.
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) is now able to confirm the unfortunate knife incident involving prisoner Janusz Waluś, said Singabakho Nxumalo, a spokesman for the department.
The attacker tried to stab Waluś in the heart but missed, hence Waluś survived. He was taken to the hospital where he is receiving medical attention.
He is in stable condition.
Janusz Waluś is a South African far-right activist of Polish nationality who murdered black communist party leader Chris Hani in 1993.
Earlier in November, Waluś, a Polish citizen, was granted parole by South Africa's Constitutional Court and had been expected to be released imminently. The decision was met with fierce criticism and protests across RSA.
