Pulse of Culture 5.07

In this instalment of TVP World’s Pulse of Culture our host Ida Nowakowska took a closer look at the Jazz à Vienne Festival in France, one of the biggest jazz events in Europe. This year’s festival was launched on June 29 with a special concert performed by French rap legend MC Solaar.

Since its debut in 1981, the Jazz à Vienne Festival has been celebrating the world of jazz every first two weeks of July. Each year, more than 200,000 enthusiasts come to see the 1,000 artists performing on the 4 stages.

This episode also looks at another gesture of support from pop culture stars towards Ukraine. Gordon Matthew Sumner, also known as Sting, dedicated his hit from 1985 “Russians” - now released in a new acoustic guitar version, to the Ukrainian defenders. “My song is now a gesture of solidarity with the people of Ukraine,” the musician said.

Other events covered in this episode include a Ukrainian exhibition of destroyed Russian military equipment, the “Mythologies” ballet now playing at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux and the release of the “Green Paradises - Historic gardens in Łużyce” book.
