Small modular nuclear reactors to be built in Poland

Poland is investing in small modular nuclear reactors, which could permanently increase the country’s energy security and complement its investment in renewable energy sources, the CEO of Poland’s largest oil refiner PKN Orlen Daniel Obajtek tweeted on Monday.

Obajtek wrote that he has discussed ways to optimise the implementation of this technology with the CEO of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy Jay Wileman.

In December 2021, PKN Orlen and Synthos Green Energy – a strategic partner of GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy – signed an investment contract in order to establish an equal-share joint venture to develop nuclear technology and build small and medium-sized reactors in Poland.
