Iga Świątek (seeded 5th) won the WTA tournament in Adelaide, defeating the Swiss Belinda Bencic (seeded 2nd) 6:2, 6:2 in the final match.
The 19-year-old Polish woman has already triumphed in the Grand Slam French Open, but now she won her first title in the WTA series of the lower rank. In 2019, she made it to the final in Lugano, but lost to Polona Hercog.
On Saturday, Świątek fully controlled the course of the match, winning the first set in 35 minutes. In the second part, she also broke her rival twice: at 3:1 and at 6:2, and comfortably won the entire clash.
The Polish player continues to impress, as she did not drop a single set in Adelaide - just like in the French Open. Apart from her defeat against Simona Halep in the Australian Open, Świątek has been winning her matches only in two sets for three tournaments in a row.
In the upcoming WTA ranking, Świątek will be promoted to 15th place, the highest in her career.
