The Polish Ministry of Health has reported another 5,864 new coronavirus infections detected in the past 24 hours. Government experts are closely monitoring the situation, looking for signs that a third wave of infections could be on the horizon
The Ministry also announced that another 303 patients, 250 of which suffered from comorbidities, have passed away due to the disease.
The largest number of registered cases was reported from Mazowieckie Province (950), which includes the capital city Warsaw, while Świętokrzyskie Province in south-central Poland reported the lowest number of cases (82).
13,654 patients are hospitalised due to the virus, of which 1,409 are currently on a ventilator.
1.2 million people have recovered from the disease, while 37,082 fatalities have been recorded. On January 29th, the Ministry of Health announced that Poland has signed a contract with AstraZeneca for 16 million vaccine doses, and should receive 1.5 million of them in the first quarter of the year.
The increased number of doses will make it possible for another 750,000 people to receive their jabs in the first quarter of 2021.
