COVID-19: record-breaking 18,820 new infections in Poland

The Health Ministry announced 18,820 new confirmed COVID-19 infections in Poland, increasing the total number of cases recorded in the country to 299,049 including 170,694 still active. The number of active cases was 156,377 yesterday.

The ministry also announced 236 new fatalities, of which 29 were due to COVID-19 alone and 207 out of COVID-19 and concurrent diseases. The death toll in Poland went up to 4,851.

According to the ministry, a total of 479,288 people are quarantined and 47,242 are placed under epidemiological surveillance, whilst 123,504 people have recovered from COVID-19 in the country so far. As it stands, there are still 170,694 active cases of the coronavirus in Poland.

As of Wednesday morning, as many as 44,303,684 coronavirus cases, 1,172,955 deaths and 32,486,703 recoveries have been confirmed worldwide.

The US remains the country with the largest number of confirmed coronavirus cases, amounting to 9,039,170. India comes second most with 7,990,322 cases and Brazil third with 5,440,903.
