COVID-19: Temporary hospital at the National Stadium

The Head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Michał Dworczyk, is responsible for coordinating activities related to the establishment of a temporary hospital at the National Stadium in Warsaw; it is to hold about 500 beds, government spokesman Piotr Muller told TVP Info on Monday.

The government spokesman stressed that the government is taking the actions that were foreseen in the crisis plans in connection with the development of the pandemic. "We can see that the number of cases is snowballing so severely that we need to secure places for those who need it”, Muller said.

There will be about 500 places "with possible oxygen therapy on-site as well, to secure the needs of those in need of hospitalisation.” The spokesman was also asked how long this infrastructure will be used for these purposes.

"Looking at the development of the situation, I fear that it may be weeks, if not months, in which we will have this infrastructure used in several places in Poland to secure the health and lives of Poles", said Muller.

"Last Saturday the Prime Minister gave an order to prepare the first temporary hospital to be located at the National Stadium. At the same time, preparations are underway in several provinces for the possible establishment of subsequent such temporary hospitals. This process will already be supervised by the provincial governors," said the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
