Double the global average of ‘digitally advanced’ firms in Poland: Deloitte

In Poland 19 percent of companies are “digitally advanced,” compared to 11.6 percent globally according to the newly-published “2020 Global Technology Leadership Study” conducted by consultants Deloitte.

The company’s annual study was conducted in 69 countries (including Poland), with over 1,300 participants representing 22 industries. The purpose of the study was to look at how corporate technology departments operate and how the roles of those responsible for them is changing.

The consultants looked at companies that form the “digital avant-garde”, that is, those which “have a digital strategy in place and an IT department that understands business needs and actively responds to the ongoing digitization and the development of modern technology, according to the report.

"While globally, 11.6 percent of respondents could be classed as digital leaders, in Poland almost twice as many - 19 percent filled that description," Daniel Martyniuk, one of the authors of the report and a Technology Strategy & Transformation partner at Deloitte, said.

“The global results of the survey show that companies representing the digital avant-garde are more likely to focus on innovation, growth and customers,” Mr Martyniuk added. Some 66 percent of such companies focussed on innovation, 53 percent concentrated on growth and 60 percent on customers, according to the survey. By comparison less developed companies put less emphasis on such goals.

Polish respondents of the survey including technologically-advanced companies and other organisations, pointed to their clients as being their business priority (67 percent as opposed to 63 percent).

However, Deloitte found that the digital avant-garde focuses on innovation (53 percent vs. 40 percent) and cybersecurity (33 percent vs. 11 percent).

In contrast, less technologically developed companies paid more attention to performance (48 percent vs. 40 percent) and cost reduction (44 percent vs. 20 percent).

Comparing the leaders with the rest of companies in Poland, it can be seen that members of the digital avant-garde more often pay attention to cloud solutions (67 percent vs. 54 percent) and cybersecurity (47 percent vs. 22 percent).
