Prototype of disinfection gate helps doctors in southern Poland

A special disinfection gate, created by scientists from the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, southern Poland, allows doctors to decontaminate protective suits before their removal, thus minimising the risk of contracting the COVID-19 disease.

The device has been operating since Wednesday at Specialist Hospital No. 1 in Bytom.

To disinfect the protective suit, a person in their full suit enters the gate, which is activated automatically. The light panel has pictograms that in a transparent way indicate what to do next. After disinfection, the indicator light comes on, meaning that it is safe to exit as the process is completed. Then the protective suit must be removed according to the procedures.
