Bartosz Bielenia found himself amongst the top 10 most promising European actors and actresses, as he was awarded the prestigious European Shooting Star 2020 title during the ongoing 70th International Film Festival Berlinale in the German capital city.
Shooting Stars is the special framework programme established by the European Film Promotion (EFP) which aims to promote young and gifted European actors.
The international jury chose 10 out of 28 candidates, based on their artistic portfolios.
"The sinner and the saint. The devil and the angel. If you doubt that these opposites can meet in one man, think again. Because Bartosz Bielenia will make you believe. With these seemingly infinite faculties he walks the maddening paths of despair and redemption,” the jury described the Pole.
“With this mesmerizing presence he makes you want to join him on these walks. While at the same time he carries a whole movie on his shoulders. Shall we explain his talents? Impossible. Let's just call them magic," they wrote.
Bartosz Bielenia played the multi-award-winning leading role in this year's Polish Oscar nomination Corpus Christi (2019), for which he has been awarded numerous times at renowned festivals in Chicago, Stockholm and others.
Mr Bielenia is the seventh Pole that has been named the European Shooting Star. Receiving such a title has paved the way to a major international career for many currently well known artists, such as Rachel Weisz, Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan and Mélanie Laurent.
