“The Polish Defence Minister clearly declared that he wants Poland to buy the fifth generation aircraft and we will try to do it in the near future,” the President declared.

He added that Poland intends to buy F-35 jets, pointing out that the air forces have to be modernised and ditch post-soviet aircraft.

The President stressed that the purchase of new fighters is necessary, because 50 F-16 jets is not enough. “The country that lies in our geopolitical location... has to increase its defensive capabilities,” he said.

Poland’s head of the state pointed out that modernisation of the Polish army is essential for the ruling United Right. “However, it needs time and huge funds. Especially since we have to deal with negligence from previous years,” he stressed.

President Duda mentioned the signed agreement for the purchase of rocket artillery HIMARS, anti-aircraft Patriot system and the fact that government agreed to increase the budget spending on defence purposes to 2.5 percent of GDP by 2030.
